    Utah County 4-H Horse

    Horse Judging

     

    We would like to congratulate our 2017- 2018 Hippology Team: Kyra Feland, Kelsey Hughes, Kami Packer, and Rachel Poulsen for placing 6th overall at Western National Roundup last week. The team also placed 4th overall in the Written Exam/Slides Phase, 6th overall in the Station Phase, and 8th overall in the Team Problem Phase. 

    We would also like to congratulate Kyra Feland for Placing 5th individually in the Written Exam/Slides Phase and 10th overall High Individual. 

    We would also like to congratulate Kami Packer for placing 8th individually in the Written Exam/Slides Phase.

     

    GETTING STARTED

    Before youth can participate in the 4-H Horse program they must first become a member of 4-H. To do this you must do three things. 

      1st: Click HERE to find a club near you. 

      2nd: Create a profile at https://ut.4honline.com 

      3rd: Pay the $10.00 enrollment fee (online, over the phone, or in person).

    January 24, 2018: Horse Judging Reasons Clinic - Come learn all about giving reasons in horse judging. There will be tips and tricks as well as an opportunity to practice and perfect your skills. 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Utah County 4-H Office. 

     

    January 26, 2018: Registration Deadline for the Utah County 4-H Horse Camp and Hippology Contest. Register online through ut.4honline.com. 

     

    January 31, 2018: Utah State University 4-H Scholarship Application Due - Click HERE for more information. 

     

    February 9 - 10, 2018: Utah County 4-H Horse Camp and Hippology Contest - Open to youth grades 3 - 12. Cost is $25 and includes meals and a shirt. Register online at ut.4honline.com by January 26, 2018. Come learn all about equine careers, see demonstrations, and compete in the Utah County 4-H Hippology Contest. Senior youth wishing to compete at State 4-H Contests in Hippology MUST participate in the contest in order to qualify. Junior and Intermediate youth winners will receive their awards at the Utah County 4-H Achievement Night in November. 

     

    February 17, 2018: Public Speaking Camp - Open to youth grades 3-12 and adults. Cost is $15. 9:30 am to 4 pm at the Utah County 4-H Office. Register online at: http://ut.4honline.com This camp will provide fun, hands-on experiences in public speaking, impromptu speaking, and demonstrations. Work ships will include games, activities, and interactive experiences to take the fear out of speaking in public and increase your confidence. Participants will learn strategies and techniques for writing a speech and effective delivery of a speech. This will be a great camp you won’t want to miss. Cost covers workshop supplies, activities, and lunch. 

     

    February 20, 2018: Horse Bowl #1 - 6:00 p.m. at the Utah County 4-H Office. Come participate in the Horse Bowl contest. Come as a team or come alone but just come. Senior youth wishing to qualify for State 4-H Contests must participate in at least one horse bowl in order to qualify. State Qualifiers will be selected based on their individual performance. To encourage and reward effort, 5 extra points will be awarded to each individual based on how many bowl contests they attend. 

     

    March 1 - 4, 2018: Western Region Leaders Forum - This is open to leaders of all experience levels. Western Region Leaders Form (WRLF) is a fun and exciting conference for 4-H Leaders, youth, and staff. You can attend classes and workshops on all aspects of 4-H. This year, it is being hosted in San Diego, CA! Come and enjoy the sun while you learn more about 4-H! Utah will be hosting in 2019, so we would love our leaders and youth to support WRLF in California. 

     

    March 7, 2018: Horse Bowl #2 - 6:00 p.m. Come participate in the Horse Bowl contest. Come as a team or come alone but just come. Senior youth wishing to qualify for State 4-H Contests must participate in at least one horse bowl in order to qualify. State Qualifiers will be selected based on their individual performance.     March 22, 2018: Contest Day #1 - This is for any youth interested in participating in Horse Demonstrations or any other 4-H Demonstration or Talent contest. Senior youth withing to qualify for State 4-H Contests in Horse Demonstrations MUST participate in this contest or on Contest Day #2: June 1, 2018 for an opportunity to qualify. Sign up through ut.4honline.com

     

    March 28, 2018: Horse and Livestock Portfolio Night - 6:00 p.m. at the Utah County 4-H Office. Need help getting started on your 4-H portfolio? Come get help, get started, update, and learn all about scholarships and contest opportunities associated with 4-H portfolios. 

     

    April 12 - 14, 2018: 4-H Leadermete - More information can be found online here: https://utah4h.org/events/leadermete/ Contact the Utah County 4-H Office for more details. 

     

    April 25, 2018: Horse Public Speaking Contest - Time slots at time of registration. Come participate in the horse public speaking contest. Open to youth grades 3 - 12. Senior youth wishing to qualify for State 4-H Contests MUST participate in order to qualify.
