    Utah County 4-H Livestock Program

    We would like to congratulate our 2017- 2018 Livestock Bowl Team: Jared Roach, Britton Redd, Stran Sorensen, and Tyler Morgan for placing 5th overall at Western National Roundup last week. We would also like to congratulate Jared Roach for placing 2nd individually!!!

     

    GETTING STARTED

    Before youth can participate in the 4-H Livestock program they must first become a member of 4-H. To do this you need to do three things. 

      1st: Click HERE to find a club near you. 

      2nd: Create a profile at https://ut.4honline.com 

      3rd: Pay the $10.00 enrollment fee (online, over the phone, or in person).

     

    UPCOMING EVENTS

     

    January 30, 2018: Livestock Bowl #1 - 6:00 p.m. at the Utah County 4-H Office. Come participate in the Livestock Bowl contest. Come as a team or come alone but just come. Senior youth wishing to qualify for State 4-H Contests must participate in at least one livestock bowl in order to qualify. State Qualifiers will be selected based on their individual performance. To encourage and reward effort, 5 extra points will be awarded to each individual based on how many bowl contests they attend. Please register online at ut.4honline.com so we can know how many to expect but feel free to show up even if you have not registered. 

     

    January 31, 2018: Utah State University 4-H Scholarship Application Due - Click HERE for more information. 

     

    February 3, 2018: Livestock Tagging #1 - Registration must be completed online prior to attending. More information can be found on this website under Rules, Tagging, and Show Info.

        • When: February 3, 2018 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
        • Where: Nebo Animal Clinic 845 North 300 West Spanish Fork, UT  84660
        • LAST OPPORTUNITY for Steers wishing to participate in the Utah State Jr. Livestock Show (Spanish Fork) or the Millard County Jr. Livestock Show (Delta).
        • OPEN to all species wishing to participate in any later shows.

     

    February 5, 2018: Utah Pork Producers Ambassador Program Scholarship Application Due - Click HERE for the application and more information. 

     

    February 10, 2018: Registration Deadline for the All About Livestock Camp - Camp will be held February 23 - 24, 2018. 

     

    February 15, 2018: Livestock Bowl #2 - 6:00 p.m. at the Utah County 4-H Office. Come participate in the Livestock Bowl contest. Come as a team or come alone but just come. Senior youth wishing to qualify for State 4-H Contests must participate in at least one livestock bowl in order to qualify. State Qualifiers will be selected based on their individual performance.     February 23 - 24: All About Livestock Camp - Spanish Fork Fairgrounds. This camp is open to all Utah 4-H youth grades 3 - 12. This year the camp will be focused on Livestock Judging. There will be great presenters, dance, livestock judging contest, and prizes. Come for the whole camp or just the contest on the 24th. Register online at ut.4honline.com. Registration is $25.00 and includes meals and a shirt. Registration for the contest only is $10.00 and includes lunch. Senior Utah County 4-H youth wishing to qualify for State 4-H Contests must participate in this contest or the Utah State Jr. Livestock Show judging contest in order to qualify. The top 6 youth from each contest will be selected to represent Utah County at State 4-H Contests. 

     

    We are pleased to announce our 2018 Livestock Camp Presenters: Megan Thormodsgard and Maddie Comes.

     

    Megan Thormodsgard is the daughter of Neil and Karen Thormodsgard. She grew up on her family’s commercial cattle operation in Briggsdale, Colorado. Throughout her youth she was very active in 4-H and FFA. She participated in both 4-H and FFA meat and livestock judging teams and showed cattle, hogs, sheep, and goats. After high school she began her undergraduate studies at Colorado State University pursuing a dual degree in Animal Science and Agriculture Education. She served as a Colorado State FFA Officer between her sophomore and junior year at CSU. When she returned to CSU she judged on the 2017 Colorado State University Livestock Judging Team. Megan plans to pursue a career as Agriculture Educator after graduation.

     

    Maddie Comes grew up on her family's commercial cow calf operation in Lewistown, Montana. She was an active member in FFA, where she competed in livestock and meats judging. Maddie joined the Colorado State University Agriculture Science family in the Fall of 2014. She was a member of the 2016 CSU Meats Judging Team and chose to continue her collegiate judging career as a member of the 2017 Livestock Judging Team. Maddie will graduate this May with a Bachelors of Science in Animal Science. After graduation, Maddie will continue her education at Washington State School of Veterinary Medicine as a member of the Class of 2022.

     

    March 1 - 4, 2018: Western Region Leaders Forum - This is open to leaders of all experience levels. Western Region Leaders Form (WRLF) is a fun and exciting conference for 4-H Leaders, youth, and staff. You can attend classes and workshops on all aspects of 4-H. This year, it is being hosted in San Diego, CA! Come and enjoy the sun while you learn more about 4-H! Utah will be hosting in 2019, so we would love our leaders and youth to support WRLF in California.

    March 24, 2018: Youth Pork Academy hosted by the Utah Pork Producers Association - Held at the Spanish Fork Fairgrounds. This is an awesome opportunity for youth interested in the Pork Industry.     March 28, 2018: Horse and Livestock Portfolio Night - 6:00 p.m. at the Utah County 4-H Office. Need help getting started on your 4-H portfolio? Come get help, get started, update, and learn all about scholarships and contest opportunities associated with 4-H portfolios.
