      IMPORTANT Livestock Tagging Information 2020

    Updated January 16, 2020

We apologize for the confusion about the livestock tagging process this year. Please bear with us as more changes have been made. The information below reflects the current tagging process for 2020. We look forward to having a successful stockshow season.

If you would like to sign up for the Utah County 4-H Livestock Text Remind system text “@utahcounty” to the number 81010.

The tagging process is three steps:

    • Step 1: Be an “Active” 4-H Member or FFA member in good Standing
    • Step 2: Have your animal tagged by the 4-H Agent or FFA Advisor
    • Step 3: Register for the Jr. Livestock Show you wish to participate in

    Important Changes:

    • Participants can no longer order their own tags: For those of you who ordered tags through IFA, thank you for responding so quickly to the previous email. Your 4-H Agent or FFA Advisor has been notified and they will pick up the tags you ordered.
    • There is no longer an online form that requires submission: Participants are no longer required to submit an online form to the Association. This change means youth must again have the necessary signatures on their Entry Form for the show they wish to participate in (except for shows with online forms).
    • The 4-H Agent or FFA Advisor are the only ones who can tag animals: Because there is no online form to verify ownership, animals must be tagged by the FFA Advisor or 4-H Agent. This is the same process that has been followed in previous years.

*** Important Information for Utah State Jr. Livestock Show Cattle Exhibitors ***

The cattle tagging will be held from 10:00 am to Noon at Producers Livestock Marketing Association located at 1324 west 900 South Spanish Fork, Utah.

    • Every Grand and Reserve Champion will be tattooed in the left ear with a CH for champion. Animals with this tattoo are not eligible to enter and show in any association member shows.
    • Change of Ownership – Once an animal has gone through any stockshow sale, regardless of buyback or no-sale, it is no longer eligible to enter a state assisted show.

    2020 4-H Changes:

    • 4-H Year Change:
      • The 4-H year now runs from September 1st - August 31st.
      • 4-H Age Divisions are now based on age alone, grade is no longer a factor. Divisions are as follows:
        • Cloverbud 4-H Members—Age 5 through 7
        • Junior 4-H Members—Age 8 through 10
        • Intermediate 4-H Members—Age 11 through 13
        • Senior 4-H Members—Age 14 through 18

For example, youth competing in the Utah State Fair with Junior Livestock projects are still eligible to compete.
          • Cloverbud 4-H Members may not participate in 4-H Livestock or Horse projects. The Pee Wee division available at select shows is not affiliated with 4-H and as such, participants are not required to register for 4-H.
        • Example: A participant who was 10 years old on September 1, 2019 but turned 11 in April of 2020 will be considered a Junior 4-H Member until September 1, 2020 (and will still be considered a Junior 4-H Member for the Utah State Fair).
